Ukraine's Civil War

A century ago, the Jewish grandparents of film director Peter Entell fled the persecution and pogroms of Ukraine, a land torn apart by war and massacres, and found refuge in the United States. Returning to seek out the village of his ancestors, Entell finds himself in the middle of a civil war.

He finds that people continue to kill in the name of the mother country, flag, culture, and religion. The memory of the atrocities suffered by the Jews, the Tatar Muslims of Crimea, and the Orthodox population seems to have been transmitted from generation to generation, along with the poison of hatred.

Slowly, Entell's story becomes transformed into the story of an entire people, lost in its own madness. In sincerely exploring the diversity of the Ukrainian people amidst an atmosphere of senseless, destructive violence, LIKE DU IN THE SUN transcends cultural, religious and national differences to uncover the deeper bonds that unite us all.
