At a time of growing nationalism, DEMOCRACY is an essential, inside-look at the European Union's political machinations. Filmed over several years, the film grants unprecedented access to the negotiations over General Data Protection Regulation, a highly controversial issue.

Rapporteur Jan Philipp Albrecht is the German Green Party politician tasked with steering and overseeing the entire process. We see him talking with lobbyists and civil rights activists, joining fringe gatherings and debates, participating in think tanks, talking with colleagues in the corridors of power, and reporting to EU Commissioner Viviane Reding. DEMOCRACY sheds needed light on the complex power structures that govern Europe, to offer a snapshot of democracy at work today.
